Interesting title for a post I am sure you will say. After all how can something be both good as well as bad for your blog? This post will tell you three things that are considered to be a good for your blog but might actually be causing harm to you at the same time.

1. Blogrolls

This is one of the greatest ways to show off what blogs you read to your visitors. At the same time, blogrolls are also utilized by bloggers in link exchanges for link love and its associated benefits. I have seen many blogs that sport more than 10 links in their blogroll. I consider it a very bad way to leak the value of your page. In link exchanges, if you are linked from a high page-rank blog then it will play to your advantage. At the same time, if someone’s rank is not as high as yours, having them on your blogroll could hurt your rank. Still blogrolls continue to be a very popular form of building and maintaining relationships with other bloggers.

2. Ads

They are a necessary evil for most bloggers. Ads are the best source of revenue for most bloggers since it is automated income that pays you handsomely every month. Unfortunately, it is also easy to go overboard on your blog as far as advertisements are concerned. The reason for this is that many bloggers put tons of banners all over their blog – this makes your theme unreasonably cramped and loud. Apart from this drawback, ads also send your visitors to third party websites i.e. sites that are in no way associated to your blog. In other words, you have essentially sold your visitor to someone else. It can be quite costly especially if you sell affiliate products also.

3. Social Bookmarks

With the advent of Web 2.0 it is easy to see that the power of social media is on a steep incline. This is why many bloggers are now aggressively campaigning to bookmark their articles on Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon etc. In fact this obsession has gone a little overboard as many bloggers have plasters social bookmarking icons all over their blog which makes it very distracting to readers. So this is another point which needs to be done but in controlled measure.

But We can do these things in safer ways..

1-> we can make No-follow for those blogrolls so we wont loose any pagerank or select site which supports ur niches for blogroll
2-> I agree, cluster of Ads will surely ruin our SEO and traffic
3-> We can choose best social sites for our blog…FB, twitter, SU, is good i think so :D Submitting to all social sites will affect our SEO much

I think blogrolls still works there in the mainstream.I don’t think Ad’s going to make any bad effect if you have unique content on board.most of the users come back to your blog only because have some uniqueness.

There is simply too many social media outlets and blog ranking sites to keep up with, not to mention article and bookmarking sites. Our 2.0 webs has become over saturated.

I always hate to see web pages filled with ads. The page load will take more time. Regarding blog rolls, it is an unavoidable thing in blogs. It is the best method to create a relationship with another blogger. But we can set a limit to the number of links in blog roll.

Blogrolls are great and one will lose some juice, but it does work and I don’t care to much. It makes the difference when exchanging links.

As for ads, it’s a win/lose situation and some to take it to the extreme, but it works for some while it hurts others. It all depends on what the goal is for the blog/site.

I would say another bad thing about blogrolls is sometimes you don’t really vouch 100% for the website you are linking to, but you are linking to it anyways because you did an exchange with a blog that was really worth it. I know this has happened to me a few times.

Till then,

Jean
