A blog can be made successful with proper planning and creativity. But there are few things that kill your blog and its stunt its growth. So it is important that you as a professional blogger understand the few points that can cause all the difference between a blog that is popular and a blog, which is obscure. We often see cases, where a popular blog begins to decline in readers and eventually can almost be declared as dead due to the extreme lack of activity.
For this reason, I have listed 4 things that kill your blog:
1. Forgetting Humans
This is one way in which you can end up harming the reputation of your blog. If your content is all tailor-made for search engines without any personal touch to connect with readers then you blog will hardly survive. It is becoming very difficult to survive in this hyper-competitive blogging niche where repeat readers will be your main source of strength. If your content is not at all reader-friendly there will be no reader who wants to visit your blog or leave comments on it.
2. No Roadmap
Your blog is a business if you intend to make money from it. So it is important that you create a definitive plan for your blog. A roadmap to reach the desired goals of a blog is important. If you fail to develop a plan for your blog then there is a high chance that you begin to lose focus of the main purpose of your blog and begin to deviate. Moreover, you will not achieve what you set out to achieve with your blog.
3. Becoming Stagnant
A blog needs to be creative, lively and engaging. It is no longer simple for a blogger to write content and sit back. Even if you blog is fairly popular, you need to shake things up regularly maybe by changing your theme or hosting a contest etc. Creativity will help your blog grow and get more readers with time.
4. Lose Enthusiasm
This is the final and the most fatal point of all. We all see that many blogger begin to lose interest and enthusiasm in the topic that they blog about or their blog along with the passage of time. This is fatal to a blog since the disinterest begins to show in the blog’s post contents. Also with lack of enthusiasm, one begins to consider blogging a burden.
There are of course a million other ways that you can end up killing your blog. I have come up with these four points to share with you. Do you have any thoughts of your own? Comment below.

Hi,
I agree with your points.
I would add:
Not having the correct mindset i.e. thinking you will make money and be rich overnight. This will harm your career online and will make your blog more of a less quality blog.
Kindest,
Nabeel
One thing I really hate about blogs I think are slowly dying is a large amount of guest posts. To me, that indicates the blog owner is failing in all four of these requirements, and the blog really might not be worth reading anymore. You’re reading to see the owner’s posts, not some guest person.
I also believe that lack of consistency will also hinder a blog and put it on it’s deathbed. I’ve seen plenty of bloggers simply neglect to make new blog posts, therefore their readers will pick up on that trend and not return for a long time, as they will assume theres not gonna be any updates. So that’s what I would add to the already great 4 things you’ve mentioned here.
Till then,
Jean
Got me thinking and taking a quick inventory, nope I’m still on track. Thankfully my biggest challenge right now is time… wish I had more! Thanks for your article.
Great post and so very true. My blog is nearly 18 months old, however I still feel like a newbie to this. I am always trying new plugins and rearranging this. at this stage I am afraid to change the template, however I do know where my blog is heading and my goal……
This type of thinking is exactly what is needed upfront for a corporation to really embrace Share Point. Collectively we have come to a consensus at our company that we really need to streamline our processes.
Hi,
I agree with all the four points. I want to add another point.
Passion for what you’re doing. If you don’t have it. Don’t blog. Some people blog for the reason of making money online. They will quit if the minute they are disinterested. The difference between with people making money with blog and people making money blogging about their interest is the latter will make it while the former will quit.
I’ve seen it time and time again.
I strongly agree with you especially with #3. That’s one of the big reason why one of my blogs suddenly went into brick.
These are the important thing which should be considered as well as the content ,write unique in your content when ever writer write on there blogs.Without content you cant win the battle.
numbers 3 and 4 are most important to me. Sometimes it is hard to stay on task so things become stagnant. And sometimes i just am not in the mood to write. Some of the things I do is when ever i have an idea i write it down and eventually it turns into a post, then I set up auto posting so I don’t become stagnant.
Ignoring your readers would be a great mistake. You have to get in touch with your readers and build a good relationship with them. Everything you mentioned in the post is right. You must have the passion and dedication to succeed.
Handling multiple blogs without updating anything on that really kill our profile easily, Thanks for a awesome write up…
Absolutely agree with all four rules. No. 1 – blogs are very specifically designed for modern-day freelance writers (wordsmiths); No. 2 – to succeed, you should be writing what you know; I know No. 3 is very important, but my personal jury is still out on how often we should be blogging (I think it’s around once every 3 days, due to blog propagation properties); No. 4 – also important, because if you’ve been losing enthusiasm, you should think again, as correct Web 2.0 Freelance Blogging methods work over time (don’t forget to also: * Write separate articles about your topic to submit to sites that accept articles – e.g., GoArticles.com, the articles provide important back-links to your blog; * Quote and link to subject matter experts from within your blog; * Post comments at blogs that allow comments, also specifically for the back-links; * Lean toward maximizing AdSense placement, without overkill – in other words, placing AdSense ads at the top of blog posts between title and text will maximize exposure, but you are only allowed a certain total number of AdSense ads per blog page. Yes, it’s a tedious process that involves time and effort, but the end result is enough AdSense revenue to subsist on as a freelance writer).
these are good things to keep in mind when running a blog. It is important to remember that you are there to help people and grow your personal brand and or business.
