Social Media has become a powerful tool for Internet marketers. In this post I am sharing 5 powerful social media lessons an Internet marketer must know about.
1. Not all Social Media Tools Are Rewarding
It often becomes an obsession for Internet entrepreneurs and marketers to mark their presence on every popular social media platform. The truth being said, you can be effective in only one or two of the platforms. Not all social platforms will compliment and reward you well for investing your time on it. So it is important that you know what social media platforms are worth your time. Determine which social media tool works best for you and your business – then work on it.
2. Social Media Has Matured
Social networks no doubt started out as an entertainment medium for the youth who loved connecting with friends. Overtime, this has changed. Since the social media has now matured enough for businesses to understand the influence they can have on their brand value and sales. Case in point is Facebook, all businesses are moving into optimize the Facebook fan pages that have now become powerful tools to promote a business or market their product.
3. Social Media Does Not Give Instant Results
Does your medicine do wonders to your health in one day? Of course not, similarly learn to wait patiently for your work on social media to generate results. Results for you may be more clients or higher conversions depending on your venture. You will have to give a good chunk of your time to eventually enjoy results.
4. Social Media Will Give Frank Feedback
If you are using social media to improve your web presence, it is well and good. However, since social media is very people oriented you can be assured that your service or product will be given frank reviews. So you must be ready to hear out insults, negative comments and brickbats. This can be called an advantage or disadvantage. Advantage because it allows you to hear out what your customer/client has to say, and then accordingly you can improvise.
5. Avoiding Social Media Is Expensive
Even if you decide to ignore social media in your marketing strategy, I doubt whether your competitor would. Your rival would be busy reaching out and connecting to potential customers using social media tools – which will cause you loss. So be careful and include a solid social media campaign.

Some interesting points there regarding social media.
“you can be effective in only one or two of the platforms.”
I agree. It sometimes is too distracting if you aim to be everywhere, all of the time. You may not be able to manage your social media efficiently.

heya anil,
thanks for posting this up firstly.
yes indeed social marketing/media has certainly evolved itself more than how it used to be during the past.
However, i do believe taking one step at the time. I believe that social media such as facebook etc. will be much more effective if you have establish a ‘reputation’/'fame’ within your own niche or business online.
within your own website then, you can attract your readers as well as potential customers to opt in as fan in your facebook fan page.that way, you get to build better credibility in social media as compared to starting out from fresh with it.
=)
just my personal touch and opinion to it.
keep up the good work,mate.
cheers
Hey Anil, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on social media. You gave some valuable suggestions and tips to make success in online marketing through social media. I do know some of the tips which you mentioned but, I also learnt some unknown tips from you. Your post will help emerging internet marketing consultants. Thank you very much for your post.
hey anil,
yes apparently as i continue to read more posting and comments up on blogs, i have come to realize the great potential of social medias.
i have heard so much about the potential of twitters, facebook, digg, stumble upon etc… i get to learn so much of this just by working online.
however, i didn’t really have a chance yet to experiment and reap its benefit.
I think i ought to start now. as you mentioned, “Avoiding Social Media Is Expensive” and i really don’t want to lose my opportunity making money online. =)
thanks for the heads up.
keep up the good work,anil.
Many thanks for that list. You have done a great job and I can imagine the effort. Your article with the best publications in 2009 should be at the first place for the best publications in 2010. Keep doing that great job.
Social media is very important for all Internet marketers it is like your 2nd Email list. Twitter is my favorite and it can deliver instant traffic to your Website, or Blog that is targeted to your offers. The more Twitter followers you have the better.
This is really impressive I like the point you have mention about using social media as a tool for marketing as it is not only popular but also very effective..especially in the sense of internet marketing..and I am looking forward to some more information like this so keep posting..
Wow, that was a very detailed list and one each person in Social Media should read. I will be bookmarking it and may take the whole year to get through all the resources.
This is a good list of reasons and advice. I have shied away from social media. But now I am starting to get into it.
In my experience social media can be what will make or break you online. If you’ve got a really good product and it is receiving positive feedback in the community, you can almost guarantee that the product will be promoted heavily online when it comes to social media without you having to do much work, unfortunately though, most of the time you will have an uphill battle when it comes to social media just to get your name out there, but when you’ve got everything working right for you, It’s easy.
Till then,
Jean
I agree. It sometimes is too distracting if you aim to be everywhere, all of the time. You may not be able to manage your social media efficiently.
At this point, if you ignore social media, you’re giving your blog a death sentence. That is the easiest way to drive traffic to your site, and allows people to recommend you to their friends.
@Gobankingrates, while I certainly would not call it a death sentence, but you are surely missing out on alot of opportunities if you neglect social media.
Till then,
Jean
