Encourage readers to comment on your blogAs the post title suggests, this post is all about increasing number of quality comments on your blog. Everyone wants to see lots of comments coming against each of their blog post. As far as my blog commenting stats are concerned, I so far have published 411 posts and the number of approved comments is 1554. So I’m getting 4 comments (Approx) for every post that I have published here on my blog. More comments on our blogs show high level of engagement from blog readers, targeted content for our blog posts and improvement in blog bounce rate. So here are 11 tips to get more comments on your blog:

1. It’s a give and take process

This policy fully applies to blog commenting. If you comment on other blogs in your niche, there is every chance that they will comment back to you. So create a list of 20-30 blogs in your niche and start commenting on their latest posts on regular basis. You should subscribe to those blog RSS Feeds to keep track of their latest blog entries. Run this process for 10-15 days and see how much improvement you see in comments coming on your blog.

2. Make your Commentors link dofollow

Why not make your blog dofollow so that your blog readers can get maximum benefit of commenting on your blog. When you make your blog dofollow, all of Commentors link will be dofollow and will help them to achieve higher search engine rankings and Page rank. Also inform your blog readers, you have a dofollow blog. For that you can add an image showing dofollow blog commenting kind of image and link back to your blog page where you declared your blog being dofollow.

3. Blog Content quality

Although commenting on other blogs helps people return back to your blog for commenting and for checking your blog. But it’s your blog content which will play the vital role. No one will comment on your blog if they don’t like your blog content. So write high quality, interesting and engaging content. You can even think of asking your blog readers about the kind of content they want to see on your blog with some special posts, feedback form, polls etc.

4. Make the blog commenting process Easy

Lots of bloggers make the process of commenting on their blog extremely difficult even through they don’t get a single comment on their blog by adding unwanted functionalities like Captchas and sign ups. So don’t use anything that makes your blog readers hesitate or lazy to write comment on your blog. And there are lots of plugns available if you are running a WordPress blog to fight against spam like Akismet, will help you remove spam comments automatically.

5. Start Using Top Commentors Widget

There are lots of Commentors who will get motivated by seeing Top Commentors widget in your blog Sidebar or in the footer Section. So add a top Commentors widget in your blog which will show the list of top Commentors for that month. Bloggers used to get lots of branding, traffic and link love from such widget. I even have top Commentors widget installed in right sidebar.

6. Ask questions, help and advice from your readers

Why not ask questions towards, help or advice from your blog readers about a topic you are blogging about. Suppose, I’m writing about tips to increase comments to a blog. Here I should ask questions like:

How much comments you are getting on your blog?
Are you using any of these techniques to improve comments on your blog?
How can I increase comments flow on my blog?
Do you have top Commentors or dofollow plugin installed etc?

7. Reply to incoming comments

Don’t forget to reply to comments coming on your blog. If any of your blog reader makes a comment and seeking some help or advice from you, you should reply to its comments as soon as possible. Although, I don’t reply to all comments, but still I reply to comments that require some help or information from me.

8. Traffic on your blog also matters

If you have a small blog that gets few clicks on daily basis, so you cannot expect too many comments coming on your blog. And if you have a popular blog that gets good amount of visitors from search engines, there is every chance of your blog getting lots of comments on all of its posts. So increasing traffic to a low traffic blog will also solve the problem of lesser amount of comments coming on your blog.

9. Word of Praise for your blog Commentors

You can create some auto responders for every comment coming on your blog, where you send some word of praise to blog Commentors. And another thing you can do is giving some prize to your top Commentors in the form of a banner in your sidebar, link in your blogroll or special mention in your posts.

10. Create posts using lists

I himself noticed blog posts carrying some kinds of list gets more attention and comments from our blog readers. Some of my posts that were using lists gets huge amount of comments from blog readers like:

11. Comments subscription facility

Give your blog readers to subscriber to your blog comments. With this, they will be able to keep track of comments coming on the posts of their interest and can reply to new comments that are made by the blog owner or other readers on that blog.

Are you using any of above methods to increase the flow of comments coming on your blog or you use any other method that I missed in this post to improve your blog commenting pace, please share in the comments section below

Anil, these are all spot on as to what blog owner’s can do to increase their blog comments. One aspect I feel that can also raise blog comments, is to have a real community feel to a blog. I’ve seen plenty of blogs thrive on this, where the commentators feel like they are an integral part of the community.

Till then,

Hi,

I agree with all 11 points. These will surely increase blog comments.

I think asking questions at the end of the post really helps. It just feels natural to comment on a post which asks for some feedback.

Also, replying to comments helps in increasing comments too.

PS: Typo in Post:

As long as the comments are responsibly been posted with relevance to the theme of the post. You may do the same thing in creating content to attract more visitors for your site.

I think this is a great thing to do and it gives back to your readers. You do need to decide on guidelines but as long as they make good posts I think it is a good idea.

I recommend putting a top commentator plug in and only allowing those links to be do follow. That makes all your readers work for that link, encouraging competition and more commenting.
Another thing you might want to consider is posting controversial topics or simply something people might want to reply to.

Sometimes, you just have too many things to handle by yourself. That’s why some people would end up hiring people to comment on do follow blogs. There’s nothing wrong with it, really. You just have to make sure that they go by your standards.

A tried and true technique since the earliest days of the Internet is to be a helpful, proactive participant in forums that are important in your niche.
