We all know how important keywords are to the search engine optimization of the article. If there is minimal use of the keywords you are targeting then you have a slim chance of getting on the page 1 for that keyword. At the same time, if you use the keywords a lot many times then it appears spammy and more over it is a big turn off for your readers as the article begins to look artificial and aimed at search engines. This should be avoided.

So what is the perfect balance of keywords that can be used while writing an article? This is a question which is often asked by many bloggers. I hope this post is able to answer the queries in your mind.

The number of keywords that use in an article will mainly depend on the number of words that you are writing in an article. And the easiest way to spot the fact if you are using keywords in excess in your article is by proof-reading. If you read through the article once again yourself, you can spot if you have used the keywords too much. If you find that the reading is getting affected due to the usage of keywords and the article seems artificial- not aimed at providing any value to your readers then you should edit the article.

Most experts online who have been writing on their blogs for the past few years are suggesting that you use a pyramid structure of keywords in your article. This means that the keywords should occur more frequently in the first few paragraphs of your article. And as you move towards the concluding paragraph you should reduce the usage of the keyword.

The first five to six words of your article are said to have the maximum SEO juice. Basically, if your keyword appears in the first few words then you have a better chance for ranking good in SERPs rather than if you would use your keyword from the second or third sentence. Take a good note of this point. This is why you will notice some webmasters, before continuing the article will include the title in the beginning of the post again.

Hope you learned something useful from the post. I will appreciate your comments on this article.

Agreed. I’ve always maintained that any page should target a single keyword – especially the more competitive terms. I think that many miss the point when I say a single keyword that I expect only that keyword to drive traffic. But by the nature of the web by optimising for a single keyword, the longtail will automatically come into play at some point.

On the flip side due to some pretty neat LSI by the larger search engines “certified public accountant” and CPA could very easily be recognised as being the same thing. I’ve seen this to be true in local search where city names have been abbreviated (why is abbreviated such a long word ;) . That said, I wouldn’t stake my business on the hope that the search engines get the LSI 100% correct so may even create separate landing pages for them anyhow.

Great content is focused content.

That’s interesting. I don’t know about using the pyramid method still seems like it may be to many keywords. this has always bothered me. How much is too much or what is not enough? Ce La Vie.

Generally search engines has certain limit regarding the use of keywords in any article.Google, for example, does not like keywords more than 2% in a post.Other search engines allow higher percentage.
You’re right regarding the use of the keywords=in the first few words. That always helps.

we know that in the vast majority of cases, they are nouns. Job-seekers have long been taught to emphasize action verbs in their job-search correspondence, and that advice is still valid.

Hey Anil

I always try and use my keyword in the first sentence. Yes, it does seem to make a difference when the spiders come alone and check out your site. I normally go for 1 to 3 percent keyword saturation depending on how long the article is. For example, if my article is 300 words, the max amount of times I would use would be 2, maybe 3 times. The one exception where you would go higher is in press releases. You can get away with more keyword saturation.

With Google’s update now and live Caffeine change, they are looking at LSI information carefully as well. For those that don’t know what LSI is, it stands for latent semantic indexing and something your should at least have a basic understanding of. Just Google it.

I have a whole bunch of sites with different methods of key word posting, its almost like getting stuck by lightning, only 3 of many are being noticed, I’m trying to understand what and why its happening so i can narrow it it down, but the results are just so random, its hard to tell.

Thanks for this article, very useful.
