How to get maximum out of guest blogging?

Posted in Blog Tips,Seo Tips on March 8, 2010 by Anil Gupta

Most bloggers on the internet are driven by the Google Page Rank. When they look for a website to guest blog, the webmaster makes a fatal error to consider the Page Rank alone. There are many ways in which you can optimize your guest post at a blog.

Here are a few pointers on how to get the maximum out of blogging, so that it really boosts your SEO.

The position of your link in your guest post

By default the search engine spiders are accustomed to certain factors. Such as, in an article directory – the links are always at the bottom of the article. So if your link is also at the end of the post then it will not be given as much priority. Try and use your links as high up in the article as possible – it will help you pass a much higher Page Rank.

Usage of Anchor Text Links

Relevant anchor texts are major criteria to help in search engine optimization. However, many guest bloggers make the grave mistake of including multiple links to the same page. Suppose, you have made to links to the same page in your post then the anchor text only of the first link is considered by Google spiders. Essentially, the second anchor text you have included is useless.

Target Keyword

Suppose your article is based on some other topic which is not related to your target keyword then there is a solution. You can smartly include the related target keywords all along the post without making it look forced or artificial.

Flow of Link Juice

The page rank displayed by Google for a website is the Page Rank of its home page. It is highly possible that the other pages of the site may not have the same high page rank. This is where you have to ensure that the guest post you write is linked to the home page so that you get the link benefits that you were aiming for while writing the guest post.

Duration of post at Home Page

Like it was mentioned earlier, the home page is where your main page rank is. So it is important that your guest article stays at the home page for a sufficient amount of time before it is buried under latest posts. Sufficient time will ensure that the link benefits reach the links you have included in your post.

So there are lot of things you should keep in mind while guest blogging. Let me know your views.

Great post. I didn’t know that one can still boost its SEO through blogging. Now I know that putting the link in a higher part in the article will help me increase my PR. Other factors are also helpful like targeting the right keyword. Thus, making these a natural way will increase much PR in any blogs.

I like this post! It reminds me that the home page is the one most importance when it comes to Google PR. So, it’s possible that many sites are keeping their homepage good in content & links that’s why they’ve got the highest PR? Well, as what I also observed, most homepage looks nice compare to the other pages of its site. As what it is said, the main page is where the most rank is focus.

Great tips Anil

Yes, you definitely want to place your link in the first sentence if possible. That is the one point I hope that webmasters that allow guest posting is to leave it on their home page long enough to pass some link juice. If its a high authority site like this one, the bots are probably camped out all the time.

Here’s a tip

But as well, when you do link, I will link to my sitemap often times because your sitemap is connected to everything. Get a strong sitemap and your entire site will be strong.
