You definitely need to be active in the community, especially the community that relates to your blog. If you think about it, you have to create a real connection not only with your blog visitors but those outside of your blog, you will gain alot of great readers that way, especially in the long run if you are seen as someone who is not just in it for themselves, but is an active member of the community. Thanks for the suggestions. The main point is diversity. The more exposure you get your site to hundreds, thousands or more people, the greater the chance you will have of connecting with people. Once they gain trust in what you offer, the better the opportunity to make it a win – win situation.

Lots of good ideas there. I run several websites and several blogs, and I’ve often wondered if a blog doesn’t get indexed faster than a website. Maybe it’s just the nature of a blog to get spidered quicker and more often by the search engines. I find it takes upwards of two months to begin to get solid organic traffic with a site on a new domain.

I think the key here is doing a lot of different things and including elements like social networking sites, discussion forums. But, remember try and offer good advice versus just trying to pitch someone with your own deal. People want to know that you are interested in them and their issues. Be part of the something bigger than just yourself.
