This post focuses on some ways in which you can make your blog look professional. You blog can be two days old or two years old, if you are looking for credibility then it is important that you focus on the fact that your blog needs to look professional. It must look like it is run seriously and with an intention to help its readers. Most blogs now days give off the impression that they are just interested in making money without providing any value.

Here are some ways in which you can transform your blog to look more professional:

Site Theme and Layout

The theme and layout of your site will be the first impression that you give to your visitors. When you decide to opt for a professional theme, make sure that you do not clutter it with widgets and banners. Always follow the “K.I.S.S.” rule which stands for Keep It Simple Stupid!

Customized E-mail ID

This point is perhaps overlooked by most newbie bloggers. If you really want to look professional then you need to avoid providing Gmail/Yahoo ids.You can get an email id under your own domain name for absolutely free. Google apps provide applications such as e-mail, calendar, messenger (GTalk), Google docs, etc. under your own domain name.

About and Contact Page

It is really shocking to find that some blogs do not have an ‘About’ page. An About page is not only important to have from the professional point of view but also it is important if you want to connect with your readers. And rather than providing your email id or a mailto link, it is much more preferable if you have a Contact form page.

Comment Relish

This is an important way to connect with your reader who has taken his valuable time out to comment on your blog. Comment Relish is a WordPress plugin which send an instant personalized email to any person who has commented on your blog for the first time. This is a great way to show them your gratitude and keep them reminded of your blog.

Email Subscriptions

Set up your own feedburner URL and set up the email box on your side bar. This will allow readers to choose if they wish to receive your posts by email. Feedburner offers a nice feature called “MyBrand” which lets you have the feed at your own domain name, so instead of http://feeds.feedburner.com/scopeformoney you can have http://feeds.scopeformoney.com/scopeformoney

Great blog that you have here with excellent information on how to make ones blog look professional. I think we all have to think and look at other blogs and take the things that we like or dislike about the blogs that we are looking at. Now some people don’t like blogs that are crowded with ads and banners all over their themes, then there are those that don’t like blinking banners thinking that they distract from the content. I do think the about page or at least a contact page is important but I think the most important thing is either the “comment relish” plugin or I think the best thing one can do is answer all your comments when someone take the time to leave a comment the least we can do is write back to that person and thank them for coming to your site and either answer or talk to them about what they had written to you. I really don’t think much of getting an email from a blogger that I know has been generated by a plug-in saying “thank you for commenting on my blog”, take the time and actually type it on your blog and thank them and maybe even a little extra doesn’t hurt. jj

To be very successful with a website or blog, we must have a healthy relationship with our readers and should reply to their thoughts, feedbacks or questions whatever comes over way.
