Tips for promoting newly created Facebook Fan Page

Posted in Facebook Networking on July 30, 2010 by Anil Gupta

So you have finished creating your first Facebook fan page and seeking more help to promote it further. In this post, I’m going to introduce some basic techniques that one can follow to improve their Facebook page, for getting additional fans and for better communication on their Facebook page.

Facebook page for Scopeformoney blog

Add Basic Details

Add all basic details when you are creating your Facebook Fan page like profile image, what the page is about, founded date, website URL, company overview, mission and products. Add notes and boxes to your Facebook page for detailed information about a topic or for showing some of your best blog posts with images.

Choosing a good Facebook page name

First thing that you have to do is choose the best name for your Facebook page. Don’t choose generic or long page name, why not create a page by the name of your business or website. Once you are finalized with the page name, stick to it.

Choosing a Good Address (URL) for your page

Another thing that you have to do is choosing a good username i.e. URL for your Facebook page. You can select the username for your Facebook page from www.facebook.com/username here. But when choosing the username, make sure you are very comfortable with that name and will be able to abide by that in the long term. I would suggest including your business or website name as your username if it’s available. For my Facebook page, I choose a user name SFMBlog, so URL to my Facebook page will become as http://www.facebook.com/SFMBlog as I have 25 fans to my Facebook page.  You have to wait by the time you have 25 fans to your  Facebook page when you will be able to migrate to this short, easy to remember and seo friendly URL for our Facebook page. And when you have 25 fans to your facebook page, choose a good URL for your Facebook page.

Ask your friends to Join Facebook

One of the major step that you can take is using the ‘Suggest To Friends’ feature available on Facebook where you can send invitations to all of your friends list in your email account to Join Facebook. And once some of your friends accept your invitation, you have the option to promote your Facebook page among those friends.

Facebook page Badge on Your blog

Why not create a Facebook badge for your page and start showing it on your blog. This way, you will be able to get more visitors to your Facebook fan page and thus more fans to your Facebook page.

Sharing Options

You may ask some of your friends to become fan of your Facebook page if they already are active on Facebook. Apart from this, you may think of using your Facebook fan page in all of your email signatures, discussion forum signatures, in the Author Bio section in your guest posts and on Ezine Publishing websites. And if you are sending newsletters, ask people to become a Fan of your Facebook page. Talk about your Facebook fan page on your blog, on your Twitter account and in the discussions where it looks natural.

Start some discussions

Add a discussion section on your Facebook page and start some discussion there. Start some interesting threads in this section and see how people respond to your threads.

Keep Patience and don’t spam

You should keep patience towards the progress of your Facebook page. It will take some time before you actually get 25 fans to your page. And don’t spam other people on the Facebook otherwise you are taking the risk of your account being banned on Facebook permanently. Don’t add too many people to your friends list in day, increase it gradually.

And in case, you want to become fan of my newly created Facebook page for Scopeformoney, you can become fan of this page here.

Great blog! My focus is on using Facebook/ Web2.0 in an academic advising setting. I discuss a lot of it on my blog as well. Yeah for Millennials entering the Higher Education profession!

Love it! Been trying to direct people to my Real Estate Fan Page, but not getting far. I’m going to implement many of these suggestions. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I strongly agree on this. Apart from Facebook is the number 1 and leading Social media group, we can advertised more on there and it will surely generate traffic. Though I haven’t tried this yet, but I may, it sounds that good. You have given me a piece of advice here, thanks…

Great tips. I have a fan page and have been trying a variety of promotional methods but the one that seems to work the best is sending a tweet message. The new method I have set up is the “like” option on my blog, hoping that might bring in some more fans.

There is a brilliant facebook app ‘lukup’ (go to http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=7359567029) that lets facebook page fans search fan page content, share content with contacts and
lets page admins display content from other sites (could be blogs, e-commerce shops, etc)

Have created a new fan page based on your instructions. First of all thanks for that because I am a newbie to facebook and I initially found it all too confusing.

Check out my fan page and do leave some comments about how you feel about it.

Anil Gupta July 30, 2010 at 7:24 am

Hi zee

It looks really surprising how you are to get that kind of Fanbase in an hour. Must be a celebrity or spamming Facebook system. And if you are doing the later part, get ready for account deletion.

Great list… most of the time its just about making sensible decisions and being patient. Definitely get all your Facebook friends to like it though and go from there.

Lately I have been using the Networked Blogs-application to read the RSS feed automatically and then post it to the page. So far that looks promising since it links directly to the blog and includes a little thumbnail.

I always have my facebook profile page open in another window when I read these posts. Great stuff! I’m actually surprised I don’t get any traffic from facebook when I have 3 blogs networked to my profile.

@Escort Agency London I definitely agree with you. I hate it when people spam me on Facebook pages.

In the initial time there could be the very difficult and as soon as the fan page improves the you can see the improvement in no of fans we get on those fan page.
we can promoter our fan page on twitter as well if its a micro-bogging site .
